Coat Care
Proper care for coats can extend their life for a long time. Other than generally keeping coats clean and following washing instructions, we have a few other tips that might help.
- Always follow the care instructions.
- Keeping your coat clean is important. Dirt on the outside of you coat will attract water and prevent beading. Salt and oils accumulating on the inside will decrease breathability.
- Detergents strip off water repellents. Instead use Tech Wash, a soap based cleaner that won’t strip off Durable Water Repellants (DWR).
- Use Down Wash for washing your Down products. Down has natural oils that detergents will wash away, causing the down to clump and lose loft.
- Re-Waterproofers are available. These products won’t make non waterproof clothing waterproof, but will help keep a waterproof jacket from letting water in. However, using these products eliminates breathability.
- Putting jackets that have DWR in the dryer for a short time will redistribute the water repellant over the material.
