Are you looking for a fresh take on getting fit this New Year? Cross Country skiing may be the perfect way! Cross-country skiing is a whole body winter work out for people of all ages. It’s easy to get started, just strap on your skis & go! Campers Village has all the cross country ski gear you need, whether you are just starting or an expert skier.

This year, bring your friends and family together to enjoy fitness and fun at the Canadian Birkie Festival, February 12-13, 45 minutes east of Edmonton. Since 1985, the Canadian Birkebeiner Cross Country Ski Festival has been about family, friends and fun. This premier, affordable, family-oriented, friendly cross-country ski loppet (recreational event) honours the spirit of the Norwegian Birkebeiner legend. The ski festival has broad appeal due to its five events and distances – something to suit all ages and abilities: legendary premier 55 km Birkie with pack, 55 km Birkie Lite, 31 km Tour, 13 km Mini Birkie, and an un-timed 2.5 or 4 km Ole’s Tour for kids and novices. The event takes place east of Edmonton, with all of the events finishing at the Waskehegan Staging Area, Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Recreation Park. The Birkie is approaching fast – have you registered yet?

Grab your favourite ski buddies and sign up! Bring a new Birkie Skier to the event for a chance to win great prizes! So talk it up with everyone you know, and Ski with Friends in 2010!
We’ll be there! Stop by our booth to see the latest in clothing for outdoor adventures and enter to win one of two Olympic inspired softshell jackets by Columbia Sportswear – valued @ $200 each! We will also be available to answer any questions about waxing and layering for the event.

See you there!

A cancer survivor and former Campers-Village employee Mike Lang gives us a sneak peak of his soon-to-be released documentary film, Descent of the Remote Owyhee River.

This film chronicles the personal stories of actual young adult cancer survivors embarking on a river expedition in Oregon, and shows how they apply the lessons they learned from their cancer struggle as they battle a completely new set challenges on the river.
