Going green is just good business!

Going green is just good business! At Campers Village, we’re committed to transforming our company into an entity that protects the very places that our business thrives upon. And, since it’s our mission to help people enjoy their adventures outdoors, we feel compelled to do what we can to keep our beautiful planet it in a healthier state.

When it comes to being better…at anything, it’s the little things that make the difference. In an effort to become more environmentally conscious, we started small. Trivial actions turning off our computers and office lights at the end of the day and recycling all of our paper, cardboard, aluminum pop cans and juice tetra paks, are simple and easy steps we have taken to start making a positive change in our businesses ecological footprint.

We have created a fun, reusable bag for our customers, and encourage them to recycle the plastic bags we offer for smaller purchases. Of course, customers can always choose to not use a bag at all!

Many of our staffers ride their bikes or use public transport to get to work.

On a bigger scale, we have replaced all the lights in our store with energy efficient bulbs. We sell quality, durable products that last for many years, negating the “throw away” mentality that is ever-present in our consumerist culture. Further, we have active repair departments in both stores to revive outdoor gear and other items; products last longer, and fewer materials are wasted, ending up in the land fill.

Many of our suppliers are ‘greening’ themselves, offering products made from sustainable resources, and using sustainable practices. Outdoor enthusiasm and eco-smart fabrics go hand-in-hand. Eco-fabrics are sustainable products that promote healthy communities. At Campers Village, you’ll find clothing and gear made from soybean, hemp, bamboo, organic cotton, merino and recycled fabrics. Some of the brands at the front of this movement include:

Ambler
Mountain Works

Ambler Mountain Works strives to create the highest quality, most innovative and unique headwear, and to produce our product with a long-term focus and sustainable practices. Their goal is to ensure that these values influence the selection of all materials, and that these values positively impact all stakeholders involved in the creation and distribution of Ambler products, from the producers to the consumers. Ambler Mountain Works travels the globe in search of materials that will satisfy our design requirements, minimize our products' impact on the environment, and maximize the contribution that a product's creation makes to the community in which it is made.

Chaco

Living simply. We live in a world that makes faddish, non-recyclable and non-repairable products. In short, we make garbage. Since 1989, Chaco products have been the gold standard for durability and simplicity. They got their start by creating a product that outlasted the competition — one that could be repaired rather than pitched into a landfill.

GoLite

GoLite is far more than a collection of products. It is as much a philosophy as it is a commandment to do much more with much less. GoLite is about freedom, about being unburdened by the superfluous, the over-engineered, or the obsolete. And it is about being connected to nature in the purest way. It is about going lite on the trail, in one’s life, and on the planet. Our life supporting resources are rapidly declining while our consumption of those resources is rapidly rising. It as incumbent upon each of us to do our part to change course.

Icebreaker

Icebreaker’s hand-picked pure merino goes in search of the best technology, ethical manufacturing, and environmentally sound practices before it completes its transformation into a hand-made garment. What you get is a natural high-performance clothing system and a fresh set of ideas based on respect for nature, ethics, and sustainability. Icebreakers proves that nature is cool, not everything has to be made of plastic and that it IS possible to build a company that doesn't deliver at the expense of our environment. Be a part of it!

Mountain Hardwear

Mountain Hardwear supports protecting the wild spaces of our earth and helping more individuals to recreate and play in those spaces have been priorities of the management and employees of Mountain Hardwear since the company started in 1993. In 2006 Mountain Hardwear restructured its philanthropic giving program so that it had a more directed focus, clearer guidelines and a board of directors to oversee it. The new program, called Mountain Hardwear Gives Back, has five arms designated to reflect the company's priorities.

Osprey Packs

The ReSource Series Bags is a collection of next generation bags designed with urban styling for Osprey’s active eco-conscious consumer. An evolutionary leap in packs, these bags are made from a minimum of 70% recycled materials by content!

Prana

Prana is always looking for new ways to fold sustainable materials and practices into their clothing collection, working to reduce the impact on soils, water supplies and other natural resources. As a member of the Organic Trade Association, prAna is continually increasing the use of organic cotton, as well as sourcing other natural fibers and innovative recycled/upcycled materials. In 2007, Prana is effectively tripling its support of wind power, adding 100 European and 50 Canadian retailers to the 250 US retailers already participating. The expanded investment supports wind farms in India, China, US and Canada.

Smartwool

SmartWool is a sustainable, renewable, natural resource. SmartWool contributes significant research and development dollars to help find ways to improve industry wide sustainable farming and environmentally friendly processing practices.
